last spring, Isabel Mattia, now a former student, had her senior exhibition in the newly-completed center for the arts at Brown. at the time I’d told her that if she wanted to sell any of her work, I’d love to buy this piece.
this morning she stopped in to see me. she’s working as a TA in a sculpture class here and brought this as a gift, moving me (not surprisingly) to tears.
and giving me permission to post it here. along with her lovely self.
not sure where it’ll end up living in this space, but somewhere.
baraka, the notion of things having more than thing-ness, makes me glad for this and the other material traces and evidence of the people I love.
